Sephora hanae mori butterfly6/22/2023 ![]() After her walk she came back inside to a large, wood-paneled library with a roaring fire and lots of beautiful old books. The fields smell gorgeous as she passes through them - not grassy so much as herbal and aromatic. I like smelling attractive - I just don't want my perfume to YELL about sex for goodness sakes because I mean, hell, I'm a lady after all and some things are better hinted atĪ grown woman in her 30s went out walking through wet country fields in jeans and leather riding boots on an overcast but lovely day. And so many ambers end up screaming about S-E-X - and that's not what I'm going for either. I'm femme-y and tomboyish and androgynous-airy-cerebral all at the same time and I'm trying to figure out how to smell like that A big bomb of roses and jasmine ain't it, that's all I know. I dislike overtly or all floral perfumes because they're just all girl. How I can like sugary-spicy perfumes and some more masculine aromatic/woody notes at the same time is beyond me. Haunani - your taste sounds very similar to mine - warm, unpretentious, and leaning toward the androgynous / slightly masculine. ![]() It's no longer "me." I want something else now. Mandyfin - it's not that I dislike butterfly (I still have a soft spot for it it's quite darling) - I just find I have stopped reaching for it. Y'all are so lovely - thanks so much for the help! It is a soft carnation with a component that really does smell like clean sunbaked earth. I also really enjoy L'Artisan Perfumeur's Poivre Piquant, an interesting and appealing combo of pepper, licorice, and sort of a sweet milk scent.Īnother lovely "warm" fragrance is Guerlain's Terracotta Voile d'Ete. Pepper is a wonderful fragrance ingredient! If you like the idea of a carnation/pepper combo, try another fave of mine, Caron Poivre. If I had to pick one fragrance to be my signature scent, this would be it. Its overall feel is warm, and to my nose slightly nutty (perhaps because of the herbs). One of my very favorite fragrances is Etro Shaal Nur, an complex oriental-style creation that beautifully balances citrus, herbs, spices, florals, incense, woods, and vetiver. I also tend to choose fragrances that hover around the middle of the masculine-feminine continuum. Hi, pussinboots, and welcome to Basenotes! I share your preference for warm fragrances, and my style also leans toward the casual and unpretentious. I am new to the language of perfume, and not quite sure how to describe what I'm looking for. Is there anything that smells warm and airy at the same time? Is that even possible? With an unexpected, less-feminine note, like pepper or something?įorgive me if I am phrasing this all wrong. But I need the sensual notes cut with something else - I cannot deal with an overpowering oriental. I like some warmth at the heart of a fragrance - so I seem to gravitate toward the orientals (This is against my own expectations I don't think of myself as a bombshell type. These were all way too cloying and gave me headaches. I have tried Lolita Lempicka, Burrberry, Angel, Molinard Nirmala (that one makes me nauseous). Please don't recommend a different gourmand right off the bat - HM butterfly is the only gourmand I've ever liked. I also want it to be "wearable" enough that I can wear it in all seasons for years without getting tired of it (SF is perpetually in spring/fall - so it doesn't have to withstand summer heat). I want this to be my signature scent - so it should be something at least a little unusual that you don't smell everywhere. Still, I'd like an understated, warm, approachable & smart fragrance that is more suitable to my 30s, and that I can continue to wear in my 40s. ![]() So I don't need a *totally* sophisticated scent like a woman in New York or Paris might wear. I live in San Francisco - and I'm young for my age, and casual, like everyone here. Warm, friendly and approachable at first - but then it should turn interestingly, and make you pause for a second whiff. Something classy, refined, smart and subtly sensual. I'm looking for something that is more sophisticated and less sweet. Help me find a new, more grown up signature scent! I never put on a lot - so it wasn't too overpowering.īut now I'm 37 and it just doesn't suit me anymore. I never liked the opening - but on my skin that dissipated quickly - and it stays a warm "adult vanilla" that's creamy and a little woody on my skin. ![]() This is back when I still carried a Hello Kitty wallet and ran around in a slip dress, mind you, so at the time it was an age-appropriate and relatively sophisticated choice (if you want to smell like a vanilla cookie). ![]() Back in my early 20s, in the gourmand-crazed mid-late 90s, I found and fell in love with Hanae Mori butterfly. ![]()
